April Fools!

That Gordon Lightfoot couplet I wrote about the other day has been floating about in my head, so you know what I did? I found the song, that the couplet comes from, for you. Gordon Lightfoot has a simliar melancholic drone that Leonard Cohen sometimes has, and the same celebratory joy in his music that Leslie Feist sometimes has.

It's kind of a good break up song too.

Late March, Late Night: Part 2

Tonight, the moon inspired me with it's thin little crescent. After clicking all over that schoolyard, I looked at the stars last. Stars are perhaps the hardest thing ever to photograph. Maybe they're not really real. Or maybe cause it's they're just so far. Reminds me of a Gordon Lightfoot couplet:

And I will never be set free
As long as I’m a ghost that you can’t see

And while I'm on the topic of Canadiana... I learned what a Canadian Tuxedo is today. I'm guilty. I'm very sorry. I'm a bastard. It's all my fault.

Alan Watts and The Joker

If you've never heard of Alan Watts this half hour may be a treat for you. It's 30 minutes from a 3 hour lecture. Though I don't know about his walk... this man really talks the talk. He goes into some beautiful subjects about life and thinking and how to live and it's not super dense and is without lots of big words. It'll make you laugh and his explanations of the Tao is nice and fun; nice and fun and in a scholarly English accent. Sometimes deep, sometimes hilarious, always entertaining and worthwhile.

Brian Jungen @ Art Metropole

Brian Jungen, arguably Canada’s most important artist under 40, has a surprise show happening at Art Metropole…

The untitled multiple of hockey goalie masks is produced by Art Metropole in collaboration with Jungen. The show starts Tuesday March 28th and will continute only for a week. Why only a week? Jungen’s work is highly sought after; all the masks are already sold and the collectors want to have their babies at home.

Jungen currently has a comprehensive and travelling show (having already checked in at the New Museum in NYC) of his work on at the Vancouver Art Gallery and the show will be travelling to the Musée d'art contemporain de Montreal in May.

...there's something reassurring in the giggle of a child. That's my nephew Luke. :)

Isn't that excitingly beautiful? Norman Foster et al have built a jewel in Germany to aid the study of the study of language, literature and linguistics. (That's what Philology is...) - and it's a green building on top of it all.
